Your electrical panel is the heart of your home’s electrical system. If it’s undersized, outdated, or failing, it affects everything, from your ability to add new circuits to your home’s safety and insurability. Miele Electric Power is a licensed Connecticut electrical contractor with over 45 years of experience upgrading residential and commercial electrical panels across the state. Whether you need a 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade or a complete service entrance replacement, we handle the full project from permit to inspection.

Signs You Need an Electrical Panel Upgrade

Many Connecticut homes, particularly those built before 1990, have electrical panels that were never designed to handle today’s electrical loads. Modern homes run significantly more electrical equipment than homes of previous generations, and EV chargers, standby generators, and whole-home HVAC systems push older panels beyond their limits. Common signs that your panel needs upgrading include: circuit breakers that trip frequently, lights that dim or flicker when appliances run, a panel that feels warm to the touch, breakers that won’t reset or stay tripped, a fuse box rather than a breaker panel, Federal Pacific or Zinsco brand panels (known safety hazards), insufficient capacity to add a generator or EV charger, or an insurance company requiring an upgrade. Miele Electric Power can assess your current panel, identify any safety concerns, and recommend the right upgrade for your home’s current and future electrical needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 200-amp panel upgrade cost in Connecticut?

A 200-amp electrical panel upgrade in Connecticut typically ranges from $2,000 to $3,000 depending on the scope of work, whether the service entrance needs replacement, and local permit fees. Miele Electric Power provides free, detailed written quotes so you know the full cost before any work begins.

How long does an electrical panel upgrade take?

Most residential panel upgrades can be completed in one day. The power to your home will be off during the installation, typically for 4-8 hours. Miele Electric Power coordinates with your utility provider and schedules the work to minimize disruption.

Do I need a permit for an electrical panel upgrade in Connecticut?

Yes. All electrical panel upgrades in Connecticut require a permit and a final inspection by a licensed electrical inspector. Miele Electric Power handles all permitting and inspection coordination. Unpermitted electrical work can void your homeowner’s insurance and create problems when selling your home.

What other electrical services does Miele Electric Power provide?

In addition to Electrical Panel Upgrades, Miele Electric Power is a full-service, licensed Connecticut electrical contractor and authorized Generac generator dealer. Services customers often pair with this project include Generac Generator Installation, Subpanel Installation, and Circuit Breaker Replacement. We can scope any combination of work during a single site visit.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I could not be happier with my experience with Miele Electric Power. From my first conversation with Carl on the phone, I knew that he knew what he was talking about, and there was no high-pressure salesmanship. He took charge of the project of installing my whole-house generator and maintained contact throughout the process. His workers were equally professional. I would recommend Miele Electric Power without qualifications.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The process for getting a generator estimate and its installation was very efficient with Carl Miele and the Miele Electric crew. Carl took the time to explain what our house would need without overselling us (which happened with other electricians). The work was completed efficiently from the installation of generator to the propane tanks to the building inspector’s approval. We are very happy to have chosen Miele electric. We recommend their services and Carl will be our electrician moving forward. We thank his company for their professionalism and expertise.
